Oh God

Work related pressures momentarily abated, we're back in the room from a blogging perspective ... and back with a belter.

I have no idea what it is about going to church which brings out the very worst in my children. Suffice to say, this is the scene which occurred on Sunday when, still recovering from a post-Friday-night-hangover (seriously: 30 is hitting me baaaaaaaaaaaaaad), I somehow found myself assisting with the running of 'Sunday Club'. (I know. It's a blog post just waiting to happen.)

We were talking about God, and about how we could trust Him. Jamie was listening with an impressive amount of concentration. Beth was busy trying to get her foot in her mouth.

Sunday School Leader: And so the bricks we've made our castles out of are very strong children, aren't they? What else is strong?

Children: God's love.

SSL: And who does God love?

Children: Everyone.

SSL: And so what does that mean?

Children: That he will help us.

SSL: He will help us, which means ... that we can TRUST him. Isn't that right?

Jamie: NO. No, I don't trust God, because I don't know him at all, and he's not a real person ANYWAY.

Stunned silence ...

Oh god. Or, more aptly, oh God. Why me ...?
